A day of touring, learning, and yarning for Indigenous partners and centre students
Whilst in town for the Social Enterprise World Forum – SEWF22, it was a delightful privilege to take future Indigenous students Tahlia On and Marlise Edwards and their mother Michelle On, from Kiril Park Wild Harvest, for a tour around UQ’s St Lucia campus.
A highly intelligent, entrepreneurial family, Michelle, Tahlia and Marlise were shown the iconic sandstone buildings of UQ, where some of the ladies’ current interests of writing and agriculture may be further nourished in the lecture rooms in the future.
Following this, Michelle, Tahlia and Marlise were joined by ARC centre staff and students in what was our third tour with Indigenous Partner Madonna Thomson from Nyanda Cultural Tours.
Madonna was joined by husband Nick Thomson, and daughters Shoshona and Estelle in taking the group through an immersive bush experience which helped participants understand the history of the area, the impact of settlement on Aboriginal people and in particular Madonna’s family and ancestors and the traditional uses and flavours of many local indigenous native plants.
