Prof Yasmina Sultanbawa, Jaqueline Moura Nadolny, Sukirtha Srivarathan, Oladipupo Adiamo, Gabi Netzel, Gengning Chen, Clare Wijngaarden and Michael Netzel from the ARC Industrial Transformation Training Centre for Uniquely Australian Foods (ARC ITTC UAF) organised a 2-day educational visit to Birkdale South State School during NAIDOC week 2021. The first day was packed with ‘scientific presentations’ about the ARC ITTC UAF and what the Centre is actually doing (Yasmina), the “magic” Bunya Nuts (Jaqueline), the “salt-loving” Halophytes (Sukirtha), the “nutritious” Wattle Seed (Adiamo) and the “Red and not so Red Colour of fruits” (Michael). Studying “Fact Sheets”, smelling, tasting, eating and enjoying native food and food products (from native Herbal Infusion to Tasmanian Pepper Butter) kept students and teachers busy in the afternoon and on the second day of the visit. The activities were very well received by the students and teachers and the ARC ITTC UAF was awarded a ‘Certificate of Appreciation’ by the Principal.(Story from QAAFI Comms.)
